Paoli

Considered a Census-designated place in Chester County, Paoli is a close-knit community of just 5,575 residents. This community, which is situated in portions of both the Tredyffrin and Willistown townships, grew around an inn kept in 1769 by Joshua Evans, whose father purchased 500 acres from William Penn in 1719. The inn was named after General Pasquale Paoli, a Corsican, after he had received the 45th and final toast at a Saint Patrick's Day celebration. The community grew slowly over the years although not by much. As of 2010, it had a total area of 2.0 square miles, all of which is land. The community has a relatively diverse local economy given its size, and it even home to two companies: AMETEK, producer of electronic instruments, and DuckDuckGo, Internet search engine
